Tour De France hopeful trials Damart’s innovative summer sports range

This year, we are sponsoring Jamie Ridehalgh, a promising young cyclist from West Yorkshire and possible yellow jersey wearer of the future. Jamie tells us what he thought of Damart’s summer sportswear range:

“Keeping cool during a summer of cycling is very difficult. Damart’s winter thermals are great for combatting the winter cold, but summer is a different time and poses far different obstacles.”

“Luckily, during these warmer months, I’ve been able to trial Damart Sport, aimed at keeping athletes like me cool in the heat. Made from Damart’s unique Ocealis fabric, the range has helped me massively in terms of flexibility, comfort, and, of course, keeping cool.”

“In the past I’ve tried all sorts of different summer sports clothing but few have done the job. However with the Damart Sport products I’ve been comfortable, allowing me to concentrate solely on my cycling, especially during the hot summer we’ve had this year! The fabric is lightweight, making it really comfortable and breathable, and I wore them again and again for training.

“The whole sports range comes in loads of different colours and styles. My personal favourite though is the short sleeved t-shirt in yellow, because as you can guess, it reminds me of the Tour De France yellow jersey!”

Andrea McLean models our pink vest in support of Breast Cancer Campaign

Loveable Loose Women presenter Andrea McLean has this year teamed up with us to model our limited edition thermal pink vest, which raises funds for Breast Cancer Campaign. With a donation from each vest sold going directly to the charity, our pink vest is the perfect way to support a worthy charity while staying snug and stylish this winter.

With its pretty lace detailing, this powder pink thermal vest is made from our famous thermal fabric, making it perfect for layering to ensure extra warmth in the colder months. A must-have for women who want to help Breast Cancer Campaign fund vital research projects, this vest will be on sale from September ahead of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

Andrea said: “It’s such a pleasure to be able to get involved in Damart’s campaign to raise vital funds for Breast Cancer Campaign. This pink vest is such a great way to support the charity’s vital research into this disease, which sadly affects thousands of women in the UK every year.”

Our Marketing and E-Commerce Director Phil Anderson commented: “Over the past twelve years, Damart has raised over £167,000 for Breast Cancer Campaign and we’re so pleased that Andrea has kindly lent her support by modelling this year’s pink vest. It’s such a pleasure to be able to give something back to charity with this thermal pink vest, one of the products Damart has become famous for.”

Tara West, Corporate Account Executive at Breast Cancer Campaign said: “Andrea is a fantastic model for the Damart pink vest, and we’re so grateful for her involvement with our fundraising. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK and 12,000 women sadly lose their lives to the disease each year. Research is vital in finding new and improved treatments, better diagnosing and finding a cure for breast cancer. The support shown by Damart and their customers means we are able to continue to fund our life-saving research.”

On sale from September, the pink vest is priced from £25 and come in sizes 8-24, in pink or white. A £5 donation will be made to Breast Cancer Campaign from the sale of each item.

Damart staff get into gear for The Grand Départ

With Yorkshire ready and eagerly awaiting the first leg of the Tour De France next weekend, staff at our Bingley and Steeton offices have been getting into the spirit of the event with a day-long ‘spin-a-thon’ in aid of a charity close to our hearts.

For the past seven years we have been been finding new ways of raising money for Yorkshire-based national charity Heart Research UK, and this week we’re getting in gear and giving our hearts a workout as well.

In the run up to the Tour de France Grand Départ, staff at both our headquarters in Bingley and our distribution centre in Steeton will take it in turns to attempt to cycle all day on a stationary exercise bike in order to raise as much money as possible whilst paying tribute to the great endurance of the cyclists who are soon to take on the 391km route around Yorkshire.

Our Marketing and Ecommerce Director, Phil Anderson said: “Heart Research UK is a fantastic charity that we are proud to support. I think the spin-a-thon is a great way for our staff to have fun, get active, and most importantly give to a charity that helps transform the lives of those affected by heart disease.”

Barbara Harpham, the national director of Heart Research UK, said: “To have Damart’s support is fabulous. Heart disease touches so many lives, some people are born with it and others develop it later in life, often through making unhealthy life choices. In fact around 100,000 people have heart attacks in the UK every year and 2.3 million people live with coronary heart disease every day.

“The money raised through Damart’s hard work will help fund our Helping Little Hearts campaign to improve rehabilitation for youngsters who have undergone heart surgery or are living with a congenital heart condition. Adults are offered rehabilitation when they have had heart problems but this rarely happens with children. We aim to help them leave hospital with their own personal exercise “prescription” giving them the confidence to keep as fit and healthy as they can.”

Damart sponsors local Tour de France hopeful

As Yorkshire prepares to welcome the Tour de France, we’re sponsoring a possible yellow jersey wearer of the future.

We are delighted to sponsor 15-year-old cyclist Jamie Ridehalgh from Keighley who already competes in the top national and international cycling races in his age group and whose ambition is to take part in the Tour de France.

Our Marketing and Ecommerce Director, Phil Anderson said: “The Tour de France will pass very close to our warehouse at Steeton and like many businesses we’ve been looking at how to celebrate this and what better way than to invest in the future cyclists of tomorrow.

“Jamie has already achieved a lot in his cycling career at such a young age and when he told us his ambition is to take part in the Tour de France one day, it seemed timely that we help him to achieve this cycling goal. There will be lots of famous people cycling past our door in July and we wanted to make sure that a local lad is given a hand with his ambition to be part of this race one day.”

Jamie races on both the road and indoor velodrome. He recently recorded the third fastest time for the individual pursuit over 1500m beating the times of many professionals when they were his age, including Mark Cavendish.

As well as money for equipment and travel, we are also providing Jamie with training kit from our Damart Sport range which is used by professional and amateur sports people alike.

Jamie said: “I am so grateful to Damart for their sponsorship, I love cycling but it’s an expensive sport. When I wrote asking for their help and told them of my ambition to take part in the Tour de France, I was so pleased when they wrote back to say they wanted to help me fulfil this ambition.”

To kick off the sponsorship, Jamie joined a team of Damart colleagues taking part in the Etape de Yorkshire, a 120 mile cycle ride taking in the first stage of the Tour de France route between Leeds and Harrogate.

Damart’s Marketing and E-Commerce Director Phil Anderson said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Heart Research UK for the seventh year. We hope not only to raise as much money as possible for research with these light weight pyjamas, but also to increase awareness about the disease in order to help our customers, staff and women around the UK look after their hearts.”

Barbara Harpham, the national director of Heart Research UK, said: “To have Damart’s support is fabulous.
